Hamilton, Bermuda, September 3rd 2002 - ACE Limited today announced that it will host an exhibition of photographs by Bermudian Peter Harron entitled New York, A Memorial. The exhibition, a collection of over 50 photographs, will be on display to the public in the lobby of the ACE Global Headquarters for the month of September.
Peter Harron photographed the Twin Towers when they were under construction in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The events of September 11th compelled him to return to the site and record the emotions of residents and visitors expressed through the spontaneous memorials, which cropped up around New York City.
Brian Duperreault Chairman & CEO of ACE Limited said, "Many of us in the ACE offices around the world lost personal friends and professional colleagues in the horrific and despicable act of terrorism that took place on September 11th 2001. By hosting this exhibition we want to reinforce our support for the survivors and show our sympathy for those who lost family and friends by keeping their memory alive."
Harron who lived in New York for 35 years was stunned when he first traveled to New York a week after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre. He said, "The destruction of the place was overwhelming, but as a photographer you just do it, you put your life on hold for a moment and capture the message."
Harron captured and memorialised many poignant images, each telling a story. The titles of the photographs include We Don't Need No More Trouble, I Don't Know Why, Irish Voice, Bermuda Honeymoon, Two Sikhs, Necklace of Dust, Lisa from Ohio, Reflection and Offering to Gods.
Peter Harron who now lives and works in Connecticut has had his work shown extensively around the world. His black and white photographs of the Tall Ships were shown at The ACE Atrium Gallery in 2000. His work also forms part of Here is New York an exhibition of photography relating to the September 11th tragedy that is travelling the world, proceeds of which go to the Children's Aid Society WTC Relief Fund.
New York, A Memorial will be available for public viewing during the month of September in the lobby of the ACE Global Headquarters at 17 Woodbourne Avenue, Hamilton, Tel. 295 5200, Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm.
