Hamilton, Bermuda, November 12th - ACE Limited is pleased to announce that on Friday, November 15th, an exhibition of the work of Kent Iwemyr will open at the ACE Gallery in the ACE Global Headquarters. The exhibition will include a selection of the artist's humorous paintings many featuring sporting events. His work has been exhibited in Sweden, Germany and most recently in San Francisco.
A sportsman for most of his life, Swedish artist Kent Iwemyr began his career as an artist in 1992 at the age of 48. His previous careers include cross country skier, art teacher and the only abstract expressionist in his hometown of Hallstahammar in Sweden. He eventually moved away from the abstract approach in 1991 and found his own style in the imagery he had used in his youth - it was only then that he was recognised as a serious artist in Sweden and internationally.
"Kent Iwemyr is a story teller in paint," explained Julie Sylvester Cabot, Director of Exhibitions at the ACE Gallery. "His paintings are a cross between history and fairytales, and tell the stories from his neighbourhood with enthusiasm, warmth and empathy."
It is said that his images are influenced by those of earlier Swedish artists Olle Olsson Hagalund and Lim-Johan, using a colourful style, with a touch of humour against a backdrop of grim reality. His pictures capture the industrial village setting of his neighbourhood and feature some of the rather peculiar people of the forest community in which he grew up.
