PHILADELPHIA - April 2, 2003 - ACE USA, the U.S.-based operating division of the ACE Group of Companies (NYSE: ACE), announces the appointment of Carol Zacharias as senior vice president of its Diversified Risk division. Based in New York City, she will serve as underwriting counsel for Diversified Risk.

Zacharias most recently served as counsel to CNA Global Specialty Lines, where her responsibilities included product development and legal counsel related to directors and officers, employment, fiduciary, errors and omissions and other professional liability insurance products.
"I look forward to using my expertise to further ACE's presence as one of the most significant markets in specialty lines today," said Zacharias.
Zacharias is a frequent industry speaker and has written a variety of articles for leading industry periodicals. She has held numerous leadership roles within her field, including chairman of the American Bar Association Business Law Section's Business Insurance Committee, vice chairman of the Professional, Officers' and Directors' Liability Law Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section and co-chair of the insurance sub-committee of the American Bar Association Litigation Section's Committee on Corporate Counsel. She also is a member of the Federal and New Jersey bars, the American Bar Association, the American Corporate Counsel Association, and the Bar Association of the City of New York. In addition, she taught professional liability at New York's College of Insurance and has been published in a securities law textbook.
Zacharias received her master's degree in corporate law from New York University School of Law and her law degree from the New England School of Law.
