ACE USA Appoints Michael Harnett as Senior Vice President to Lead National Excess Workers Compensation Unit for ACE Risk Management

PHILADELPHIA - November 2, 2004 - ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operating division of The ACE Group of Companies, today announced the appointment of Michael Harnett as Senior Vice President to lead the National Excess Workers Compensation Unit for ACE Risk Management® (ARM). Based in Philadelphia, Mr. Harnett will have overall responsibility for overseeing new business development and underwriting activities for this unit, which provides a variety of products and solutions to employers who qualify for self insurance. An emphasis is placed on offering risk managers and brokers the ability to customize workers compensation programs to address the challenges and complexities of today's marketplace.

ACE Risk Management offers comprehensive risk management programs and services, which are uniquely designed and customized to assist companies in any industry deal with the significant costs of financing and managing risk.

Mr. Harnett joins ACE USA from PMA Insurance Group, where he most recently served as Vice President, Risk Management Services with responsibility for all aspects of its large account underwriting operation. With more than 20 years of experience in the insurance field, Mr. Harnett has held a variety of underwriting management positions with major carriers including Royal & SunAlliance, CNA and an ACE subsidiary. Mr. Harnett received both his bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and a master of science degree in public management/public policy from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
