PHILADELPHIA - March 16, 2004 - ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operations of the ACE Group of Companies, today announced the appointment of Kathleen Muedder, CPCU, as Senior Vice President, Emerging Issues. Ms. Muedder will focus on identifying strategic opportunities for growth within ACE USA's business units, with a primary focus on workers compensation.

Ms. Muedder most recently served as the Worldwide Practice Leader for Workers Compensation and Risk Office Executive at Royal and Sun Alliance in Charlotte, N.C. Prior to that, she was Associate Executive Director at Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) and Vice President, Corporate Underwriting and Director of Government Affairs for Zurich Insurance. Her experience has included assignments in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Canada. She began her career with Allstate Insurance as an agent and underwriter.
A seasoned insurance professional, Ms. Muedder has authored numerous articles for publications such as Asia Insurance Review and Human Resources Planning. She also has served as the Chairperson of the American Insurance Association (AIA) Workers Compensation Committee, Chair of the New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board and a board member for the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI), California Workers Compensation Institute (CWCI), National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) and National Workers Compensation Reinsurance Pool (NWCRP).
Ms. Muedder earned a bachelor of science degree in insurance from Roosevelt University in Chicago and has completed advanced studies at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Business. She also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
