PHILADELPHIA - September 24, 2002 - ACE USA announces the appointment of James Macdonald to the position of chief underwriting officer. Macdonald reports to Susan Rivera, president of ACE INA Holdings, Inc. Based in Philadelphia, Macdonald will have overall management responsibility for the underwriting function for ACE USA and ACE Canada.

Macdonald has more than thirty years of insurance industry experience and is an experienced consultant, author and public speaker. He joined ACE in October 2001 as senior vice president and chief underwriting officer with ACE Risk Management.
Prior to joining ACE Risk Management, Macdonald served as president and chief operating officer for CNA HealthPro, the Professional Liability Group (PLG) of CNA Financial of Chicago and as executive vice president, Specialty Operations for Continental Insurance Company. He also served as president, General Casualty Group for American International Group's (AIG) American Home Assurance Company, and as chief underwriting officer for AIG Risk Management. Earlier experiences include managerial and underwriting roles with Munich American Reinsurance, Marsh & McLennan, Ian Elliott Limited (Canada), and General Reinsurance.
Macdonald received a bachelor of arts degree in English Literature from University of Notre Dame.
